Arrangement signed between State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission

On the 21 of September, 2010, during the 54th IAEA General Conference in Vienna Chairman of The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Mr. Gregory Jaczko and Acting Head of VATESI Mr. Michailas Demčenko signed an Arrangement for the exchange of technical information and cooperation in nuclear safety matters between NRC and VATESI, which continues the cooperation between VATESI and NRC for another five years.

Under this Arrangement VATESI and NRC will exchange information on national legislation on nuclear safety, security, safeguards, radioactive waste management, on documents, describing the licensing process and also on information on events in nuclear power plants (e.g. operating incidents), the most significant licensing decisions, reports on operational experience and other significant information on nuclear safety matters.

The NRC is an independent U.S. agency, which regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear materials, through licensing, inspection and enforcement of its requirements. The first Arrangement for cooperation between VATESI and NRC was signed in 1994.
