On 29 March 2021, Head of the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) Michail Demčenko and Chairman of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC) Christopher T. Hanson have signed the next in turn Arrangement for the Exchange of Technical Information and Cooperation in Nuclear Safety Matters. Under this arrangement, VATESI and the US NRC further will have possibility to exchange technical information on the regulation and oversight of nuclear safety, to cooperate in nuclear safety research and training areas and find potential ways to strengthen the global nuclear safety regime.

The signed arrangement continues more than two decades of successful cooperation between Lithuanian and US nuclear safety regulators by exchanging valuable experience and strengthening the competence of nuclear safety specialists.

The first cooperation arrangement between VATESI and the US NRC was signed in 1994 and is periodically reviewed and updated.
