VATESI Approved the Plan of Strengthening Nuclear Safety in Lithuania

As it was agreed at European Nuclear Safety Regulators Group (ENSREG), State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) prepared and approved the Plan of Strengthening Nuclear Safety in Lithuania. This plan is based on measures resulting from Ignalina NPP “stress tests” as well as from common European “stress tests” experience and on demand to review legal acts regulating nuclear safety. Also it includes measures linked to the results from the IAEA Emergency Preparedness Review (EPREV) mission to Lithuania and measures linked to WENRA guidance on assessment of natural hazards and margins, which should be prepared in near future.

As a result of the performed “stress tests”, safety improvement measures prepared by Ignalina NPP have been planned and already partly implemented in 2011-2012 at Ignalina NPP units and other nuclear installations. The remaining measures are planned to be finalised in 2013-2014.
