In Vilnius, Lithuanian State Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) organized three days (25-27 September) workshop on self-assessment of regulatory infrastructure for safety (SARIS). IAEA experts A. Khatoon and T. Hailu introduced methodology and tools, which have been developed for self-evaluation of regulatory performance.
Head of VATESI Michail Demcenko presented Lithuanian plans to host a full scope Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission in 2016. Also he remarked that this workshop is the first step in the preparation to the mission and regulatory body stuff has to do a lot of homework.
IRRS mission will be held for two regulatory bodies with clearly divided responsibilities and well developed safety infrastructure: VATESI and Radiation Protection Centre (RSC).
