Strengthening institutional preparedness for a potential accident at the Belarusian NPP in a national level civil protection functional exercise

18 March 2024 State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) specialists together with other state and municipal authorities participated in the state level civil protection exercise “Crisis Management and actions of civil protection system entities in the event of a nuclear accident at Belarusian NPP”.

According to the scenario of the exercise VATESI activated The Emergency Operations Centre where VATESI specialists analysed the information on the progress of the accident at the Belarusian NPP,  predicted  possible consequences, prepared reports for the national authorities and the public, participated in the briefings organised by the National Crisis Management Centre.

Exercise was organised by the Fire Protection and Rescue Department under the Ministry of the Interior. The objective of the civil protection exercise was to test the preparedness of state, municipal and other authorities to respond to a possible nuclear accident, inform the public via emergency warning system, to evacuate or temporarily relocate the population from the allegedly contaminated areas and to apply other protective actions.
