Lithuanian specialists improved knowledge in the emergency preparedness

On 14 – 18 November, 2022 Lithuanian State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) organised a seminar Developing and Reviewing a Protection Strategy for a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency. During the seminar, IAEA experts familiarized the participants with the international practice applied in the preparation and revision of nuclear or radiological emergency protection strategies, taking into account the results of the hazard assessment of nuclear facilities and activities carried out in the nuclear energy sector and organised practical sessions.

Participants from Radiation Protection Centre, Fire and Rescue Department under the Ministry of Interior, SE Ignalina NPP, Vilnius municipality and VATESI analyzed the presented scenarios of hypothetical accidents, planned protective actions for residents in the event of radioactive material release at nuclear power plant located in a neighboring country, unintentional radioactive material spread in public space, transport accident during the transportation of nuclear materials and gasoline.

During this seminar, Lithuanian specialists improved knowledge in the emergency preparedness, and the practical sessions allowed them to check how to effectively apply the acquired knowledge and strengthen their competences.
