IAEA started Integrated Regulatory Review Service Follow-up mission in Lithuania

On 16 November 2020, IAEA Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) Follow-up mission was opened at a virtual entrance meeting.

IRRS Follow-up mission are invited to evaluate progress made by the country in implementation of recommendations and suggestions provided during the initial mission in 2016.

Head of State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) Michail Demčenko in the entrance meeting stressed the challenge to convey Follow-up mission in distance instead of usual face-to-face expert meetings and presented progress in the development of Lithuanian infrastructure for nuclear power safety in 4 years period and the results of implemented measures.

During IRRS Follow-up mission consultations are planned with specialists from VATESI, Radiation Protection Centre (RSC) and Ministry of Energy.

National nuclear and radiation safety regulatory infrastructure should be periodically reviewed under the provisions of European Council Directive 2009/71/EURATOM and Lithuanian Republic Law of Nuclear Safety.
