On 31 October 2018 the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis, taking into account the nomination made by the Head of the State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) Michail Demčenko, appointed two deputy heads of VATESI for a six-year term. Sigitas Šlepavičius was appointed as the first Deputy Head (Deputy Head for Nuclear Safety). Darius Lukauskas was appointed Deputy Head for Radiation Safety.
Sigitas Šlepavičius has been working in the field of nuclear power since 2001, from 2012 he is VATESI Deputy Head for Nuclear Safety.
Darius Lukauskas has been working in the field of radiation safety and radioactive waste management since 1998, he was in charge of VATESI Radioactive Waste Management Division for the last ten years.
