The Fifth Lithuanian National Report under the Joint Convention submitted to the IAEA

On 23 October, 2017 The State Nuclear Energy Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) submitted the Fifth Lithuanian National Report under the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The report prepared jointly with the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of the Environment, Radiation Protection Center, Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and Radioactive Waste Management Agency.

The Fifth report contains updated information regarding changes in the management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel in Lithuania in the last three years and on new radioactive waste management facilities of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant.

After submiting national reports to the IAEA the review process starts. During this review Lithuania will answer questions posted by other countries, as well as address questions to other reports.

The Sixth Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties, where national reports, questions and answers from other parties to these reports will be discussed, will take place on May 21 – June 1, 2018 in Vienna (Austria).
